Silfra Snorkeling - with underwater photos & Horseback riding
8 hours · From Reykjavík

Silfra snorkelling from Reykjavík: drift between tectonic plates in Þingvellir National Park, drysuit, pickup, free underwater photos and hot chocolate.
Your face goes in the water and it takes a second to understand what you are looking at. The water is so clear the rocks below seem closer than they are. That is Silfra, a fissure between the North American and Eurasian tectonic plates, and you float along it in a drysuit.
Arctic Adventures runs this Silfra snorkelling tour from Reykjavík, with a minibus to Þingvellir National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site about 45 minutes away.
The water comes from Langjökull glacier and is filtered through lava fields before it reaches the fissure, which is why visibility can reach 150 metres. Your certified divemaster leads the group, with one guide for every six guests, and takes underwater photos you get for free. Afterwards, hot chocolate and cookies help bring the feeling back to your hands.
This one has real requirements, so read them. You must be comfortable in the water and able to swim, and understand and speak English. Drysuit sizing is limited: weight 45 to 120 kg and height 150 to 200 cm. The tour is not suitable for pregnant people. Everyone must read the operator's Snorkeling Handbook and sign its medical statement; some conditions need a doctor's letter. Glasses do not fit under the mask, so bring contact lenses or your own prescription mask.
Wear thermal base layers in wool, fleece or synthetic fabric and warm socks, and bring a towel and a full change of clothes, since your face, hair and hands will get wet. Pickup can take up to 30 minutes, and the minibus has an Arctic Adventures logo.
Pro tip: wear the thickest wool socks you own under the drysuit. Your core stays warm, but toes and fingers feel the glacier water first.
