Into the Glacier - From Reykjavík
10 hours · From Reykjavík

Into the Glacier from Húsafell: ride a glacier truck onto Langjökull, then walk the man-made ice tunnels deep inside Iceland's second largest glacier.
Most glacier tours keep you on top of the ice. This one takes you inside it, through tunnels cut deep into Langjökull, Iceland's second largest glacier, where the ice turns a deep blue.
The tour leaves from the Húsafell Information Center. From there you ride up onto Langjökull in a specially modified glacier truck, an experience in itself, with wide views across the ice cap along the way.
Then you head into the ice. The man-made cave and tunnels let you see the blue ice at the heart of an ice cap glacier, something nobody could do before the Langjökull tunnels existed. An experienced guide leads the group the whole time, inside and out, and explains what you're looking at.
The whole experience takes about four hours from Húsafell.
The tour departs from the Húsafell Information Center, and transport there isn't listed among what's included, so plan how you'll get to Húsafell. It's rated easy, but it's still a glacier, and the weather up on the ice cap can be very different from down in the valley.
Wear warm clothes, including a warm and waterproof coat, and suitable footwear, even in summer.
Pro tip: Add a hat and gloves to the list whatever the season. Your hands will be out of your pockets taking photos, and it's cold in the tunnels.
