South Coast & Black Sand Horse Riding Tour
11 hours · From Reykjavík

Red Lava horse riding tour in Reykjavík with Sólhestar: 1.5 hours riding Icelandic horses in the Red Lava Hills, all levels, year-round, pickup available.
You don't have to leave the capital area to ride through lava country. Sólhestar runs this tour from Reykjavík, on natural paths through the Red Lava Hills and around the lakes on the city's outskirts.
It's an easy half-day: short enough to fit around other plans, long enough to get properly acquainted with your horse.
The tour lasts 2.5 hours in total, with about 1.5 hours in the saddle covering 5 to 7 km, depending on how experienced the riders are. Routes follow the Red Lava Hills and the area around either Lake Elliðavatn or Lake Rauðavatn.
Groups are kept small, up to 18 riders with three to four guides, for a personal, friendly service, and there's a suitable route whether you're a first-timer or have ridden for years. The Icelandic horses are friendly and sure-footed. The tour runs all year, and private tours are available on request.
Pickup from Reykjavík is available. If you choose it, the driver will be at your pickup place 30 minutes before the set riding time. If you're driving yourself, be at the stables 15 minutes before riding time; search for Sólhestar Horse Riding Reykjavík on Google Maps.
The weight limit is 110 kg. Dress for the weather, bring gloves and a camera.
Pro tip: The jumpsuits and rain gear go over your own clothes, so wear warm, comfortable layers underneath and leave the bulky coat at home.
