Step off the beaten track and onto ancient ice with our Crystal Blue Ice Glacier Hike — a half-day glacier adventure that brings you face to face with Vatnajökull’s stunning blue-ice formations, without needing previous glacier experience.Your journey begins with a 30-minute ride in a modified 4×4 across rugged terrain, followed by a 1 km walk on gravel to the glacier’s edge. Once there, you’ll gear up (with helmet, crampons, harness, and ice-walking guidance) and step onto the glacier for a round-trip hike of about 4.2 km (approx. 2.6 miles). Along the way, you’ll ascend roughly 60–70 metres to about 260 m above sea level, making the hike moderate — accessible to anyone comfortable with a regular hike, even without prior glacier experience. Once on the ice, prepare to be mesmerized: you’ll walk amid beautifully vivid blue ice formations, crystalline walls sculpted by nature, and enjoy unique vantage points over the glacial landscape — including rarely visited views of Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon from a side many travellers never see. Because glaciers are alive — shifting and reshaping with the seasons — each hike is different. Our expert local guides monitor conditions daily, adapt routes accordingly, and always prioritize safety. That means you’ll enjoy a secure, well-equipped glacier walk with all necessary gear provided, detailed safety briefing, and dedicated guidance every step of the way. Tour at a glance (details my change a little between the seasons)

Duration: ~ 4 hours (including transfer, gear prep and glacier walk)

Distance: ~ 4.2 km round-trip on ice + ~1 km approach hike.

Elevation gain: ~ 60–70 m (ending around 260 m above sea level) — moderate difficulty.

Activity level: Easy to moderate — suitable for anyone fit for a regular hike. Because glaciers are ever-changing: after weather shifts, many caves become inaccessible — while the blue ice features remain. Our hike gives you guaranteed access to spectacular blue ice formations, safely and reliably, on a manageable half-day itinerary. Whether this is your first glacier experience or you’re returning to Iceland seeking something different, the Crystal Blue Ice Glacier Hike offers a unique chance to walk on ancient ice, connect with Iceland’s wild landscapes, and see the glacier as it stands now — alive, dynamic, and full of icy blue magic. Skaftafell

We expect you to arrive at our meeting location 15 minutes before the tour starts.

Glacier Encounter is our classic short tour and the perfect introduction to glaciers in Vatnajökull National park. In this 3 hour tour we explore the icy landscape of the outlet glacier Falljökull. By driving to the glacier on our super jeeps, we reserve our energy and add time for enjoyment up on the beautiful glacier. We carbon offset all of our tours as we believe it to be our responsibility as a glacier guiding company.Once we reach the edge of the glacier we put on our crampons, and armed with an ice axe, we venture onto the ice to explore the fascinating ice features such as moulins, crevasses, moraines and dirt cones. Your guide will tell you about the local Öræfi region, home to the highest peak of Iceland and several volcanoes. The glacier surface and colours change drastically depending on the time of the year. Summer is the perfect time to enjoy the views of the high mountain peaks and black sand beaches stretching out into the ocean in the distance. Our meeting point is Freysnes Service station, 2 minutes from Skaftafell National Park. What to bring:Hiking boots with ankle support, outdoor clothing appropriate to the weather as well as a hat, gloves (sunglasses and sunscreen are recommended if sunny)Hiking boots can be rented on location for 1500 ISK.This tour has a 24h cancellation policy with 100% refund. Glacier Encounter

Our ice climbing tour is perfect for those looking for a half-day out on the glacier, leaving no ice crystal unturned. Our most adventurous tour is suitable for those looking for both a challenge and a unique experience in Iceland. A good level of fitness and enthusiasm is recommended but no prior experience is necessary. The Glacier Ice Climbing tour goes beyond standard top-roping ice climbing and teaches you new hard ice skills. We can incorporate hiking, ice climbing, via ferrata, rope work and safety techniques for glacier travel. Our public ice climbing tour focuses on a small group experience with a maximum of 6 people in the group only. We value your time and we make sure to maximize your experience on ice, providing as many opportunities for climbing the glacier walls as possible. With just you and our highly skilled glacier guide, we make sure this tour will be the highlight of your holidays in Iceland. What to expect on the tour?First climb is a teaching climb. The guide will pick an appropriate wall and go over some ice climbing techniques. Whether the guests are beginners or experienced climbers, going over the technique is always a good way to start the day. Then we moved on to a more challenging climb and built up with more interesting climbs until the guest reached their energy limits or simply we ran out of time. Having this size of group makes every trip easily adjustable to the participants. For example, if you are a keen group of climbers you will be able to experience up to 2 climbs but if the participants want to walk more and climb less this would be also possible. Please keep in mind that walking time will change a lot as the glacier changes and the guide has to find the right challenge for his guests. It is also worth mentioning that the walk between climbing spots is a good time to rest up for the next climb! :)What to bring: Outdoor clothing appropriate to the weather as well as a hat, gloves (sunglasses and sunscreen are recommended if sunny) as well as food and water for the day carried in a small backpack.Included: Ice climbing boots, climbing crampons, Ice climbing axes, all the other safety equipment.Cancellation policy as for our public tours. Read more
