Lava Show Vík
50 minutes · From Vik

Watch real 1100°C lava pour into the room at Lava Show Reykjavík: a 55-minute live show with a host, a short film and heat you can feel on your face.
The lights drop, the host steps back, and a stream of glowing orange rock slides into the room a few metres from your seat. Within seconds you understand why they told you to take your jacket off.
Lava Show is exactly what the name says: real lava, superheated until it melts, then poured into a showroom full of people. Nobody else in the world does this live, and after sending a lot of travellers here we can report that even the teenagers put their phones down.
The show runs about 55 minutes. Your host opens with a welcome and a run-through of what is about to happen and the safety details. Then comes a short film on how volcanic forces have shaped Iceland. After that, the main event: lava at around 1100°C (2000°F) flows into the room, and the temperature climbs almost instantly. The host then works the lava while explaining what you are watching, and the show wraps up with a Q&A. Ask things. The crew say it is always better when the audience joins in, and they are right.
Handmade souvenirs made from the show's own lava are for sale on site, not included in the ticket.
Arrive at least 10 minutes early to find your bearings. If you booked online, the e-ticket on your phone is enough at the counter, no printing needed. Keep your goggles on whenever there is lava in the room, including while it cools and hardens, which is exactly when people tend to forget.
The show is safe and the heat should not be a problem, but pregnant guests, people with infants and anyone with a heart or circulation condition are advised to sit in the second row or near the exit, just to be careful.
Pro tip: Wear layers you can peel off. It gets properly hot once the lava pours in, and sitting through it in a down jacket is a mistake people only make once.
Your good mood, eagerness to learn and willingness to ask questions. The show is always the most fun when people interact with the host. And if you booked your tickets online, it's enough to show the electronic tickets at the counter, no need to print them out.
